'Today reception had a visit from 2 firefighters. They talked to us about how to keep safe if there is ever a fire- we learnt the '3 out rules'- 'get out', 'stay out' and 'call the fire service out!' I was also transformed into 'Firefighter Codd' when I dressed up as a firefighter! We then went outside to see the fire engine. We all had the opportunity to put on the uniform and we were able to sit inside the fire engine where we tried on the hats and oxygen masks. We were then tasked with working together as a team to pull the hose out onto the playground. We then each had the opportunity to spray the hose and got very wet in the process! Finally we got to hear the fire engine sirens before we said goodbye!'
This week Reception have been learning about the role of the police in the community. We were very lucky to have a surprise visit from 'Boris' the police horse and we even got to stroke him. We were then visited by 2 police officers who taught us all about the jobs that they do and taught us the special number that we need to call if we are ever in danger. We were shown the uniform including their walkie talkies and their body armour- Some us even tried it on. Finally we got to see the police car and we were able to sit inside.
As part of our 'Animals' topic, Reception visited St James City Farm. They enjoyed seeing all of the different animals and were able to pet some! We were also provided with different vegetables which we fed to the animals ourselves!
This term Reception have learnt all about space. We had a fantastic time being a space explorer during our workshop at Bristol and learnt more about each of the planets. We also had a wonderful time exploring all of the exhibitions and displays!
For remembrance day, as well as making our own poppies, Reception visited the memorial at Gloucester park to promote our British Values and understanding of the past.
We also participated in the schools' 2 minute silence on Friday.
This week Reception and Year 1 went to visit Gloucester Library. We had a story time session and sang lots of super songs. We took part in a treasure hunt activity where we worked together to find different items and objects in the library. We also had the super opportunity to sign up to become Library members-We then chose our own book to take home! Overall it was a super fun and educational experience!
